OREGON, Ohio--Shooting three-under par 69 at Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course, Miami University men's golfer Michael Drobnick tied for first at the US Open Local Qualifier on Monday, May 19.

Drobnick, who just completed his freshman season with the RedHawks, advances to US Open Sectional Qualifying in Columbus, Ohio, on June 2. If he makes it through sectional qualifying, Drobnick will earn an invitation to the 108th US Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, Calif.

Drobnick joins fellow rising sophomore Nathan Sutherland in advancing to US Open Sectional Qualifying. Sutherland won his local qualifier at Toms Run Golf Club in Blairsville, Pa., on May 14 and also will play in the US Open Section Qualifying in Columbus on June 2.

"I am excited for Michael to advance," said Miami University head golf coach John Wiler. "Having both Michael and Nathan make it to sectional qualifying is great for our program."
